Tattoo is an art of expressing oneself on any part of the body and is to be drawned from centauries and to decorate themselves when there are no diamonds and imitation jewelries, and have some meaning for each and every tattoo. Tattoos are in fashion and some of the people don’t even know what and why are they making a specific tattoo design on their body parts. Tattoos have come from a long journey of South Pacific islands, Australia and New Zealand with sailors on the ships. Sailors are those people who travel in ships and vessels for many reasons and when they left their home and landed another port after a long and difficult journey they use to get tattoo as a souvenir, like a stamp at their passports and also counts their experiences.
Sailor tattoos are those tattoos which relates to a safe journey and motivation as protection while travelling. Some of the sailor tattoos which explain and celebrate the superstitions of the sailors are as follows –
- A Rope [Sailor Tattoo] – a rope tied tattoo suggests a sailor must be a Deckhand.
- Anchor “Sailor Tattoos” – this tattoo tells that the sailor must be a part of Merchant Marines.
- Nautical or compass rose [“& Sailor Tattoos”] – it’s a traditional tattoo which signifies that a sailor could find a way to his/her home.
- A Harpoon “& Sailor Tattoos” – it indicates that the person will be a member of fishing fleet.
- Pig and Rooster [“Sailor Tattoos”] – it indicates for the best wishes and prevents them from drowning. It is said to be that they were the only survivors of some wrecks.
- Guns or Cannons Sailor tattoos – signifies one should be in Naval Military Service.
- Shellback Turtle or Neptune Sailor Tattoos – is given to a sailor when he/she cross the Equator.
These are some of the common tattoos which a person came across and are called Sailor Tattoos. One should not get these tattoos without knowing because it can hurt Sailors emotions.
